The families of pathogens (infections) that are associated with CFIDS patients are shown below. In general, CFIDS patients are prone to develop more and more infections overtime. It is unlikely that a single infection will ever be identified as the source, rather, pathogens that a person is unable to handle well are a contributing cause (i.e. a genetic weakness). All of the major outbreaks have had associated a new virus that was unknown to the local population before the outbreak. Virus
